North American Joint Bat Working Group Meeting & 28th Annual Colloquium on the Conservation of Mammals in the Southeastern U.S.

Join us for the North American Joint Bat Working Group Meeting (Midwest Bat Working Group, Southeast Bat Diversity Network, Northeast Bat Working Group) and 28th Annual Colloquium on the Conservation of Mammals in the Southeastern U.S. (Mammal Colloquium), March 27-29, 2018, in Roanoke, VA. This joint meeting will bring together conservation biologists, private and public land managers, private consultation organizations, educational institutions, citizen scientists, and outdoor enthusiasts across the Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast Regions. The Mammal Colloquium will provide a forum for student and professional oral and poster presentations on any topic related to mammals.

Meeting Location: Hotel Roanoke, Roanoke, VA. Room rates are $107 ($121.23 w/taxes) per night for single rooms and $127 ($143.89 w/taxes) per night for double rooms. Room rates are based on the federal per diem rate and may change if the per diem rate changes. Parking is $10/day. Important Note: If you are arriving early, Hotel Roanoke is completely booked for Monday, March 26th.  There are still plenty of rooms at Hotel Roanoke for Tuesday and Wednesday night, and a small block for Thursday night.

If you need lodging for Monday March 26th, Cambria Hotel & Suites (one mile from Hotel Roanoke) have reserved a block of rooms for MONDAY NIGHT ONLY at the government rate.  Rooms can be booked at the Cambria Hotel & Suites by calling 540-400-6226 and asking for the room block for “Bat Group”. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please make reservations for the remainder of the meeting with the block of rooms at Hotel Roanoke (information above). Our meeting costs are based on the number of rooms occupied during the meeting and we have secured a lower rate for these dates.

Early Registration Extended for the Joint Bat Working Group Meeting, March 27th – 29th, 2018

Due to issues with our website registration, early registration will be extended through February 14th, 2018. Registration can be completed through the mail by sending a check and the completed Registration Form to the address provided on the form, or electronically by submitting the form to jbwg2018@gmail.com and paying by credit card through the SBDN website (see “Currently Available for Purchase” sidebar).

Focal Topics:

Plenary Session: The plenary session (March 27) includes invited speakers presenting the latest information on bat migration, onshore and offshore wind including risk assessment and mitigation, and the Motus Wildlife Tracking System.

Mammal Colloquium: We invite all interested parties with research topics involving mammals to present findings in either an oral (Wed-Thurs) or poster presentation (Wed PM). We encourage students, professors, researchers, and policy makers to share their knowledge. Instructions for submitting abstracts and guidelines for poster presentations are at the bottom of this page.

Directions: The Roanoke-Blacksburg airport (ROA) is 10 minutes away. The Hotel Roanoke provides free shuttle for guests to and from the hotel. See hotel web site for driving directions.
