The Northeast Bat Working Group (NEBWG) is comprised of agencies, organizations, industry, and individuals interested in bat research, management, and conservation located in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Virginia area regions of the United States. NEBWG is comprised of individuals representing a number of organizations,

companies, and government entities. Members include many of the leading

bat researchers in the Northeast US, along with several other individuals with

interest in the research, recovery, and education about bats.

NEBWG's role in the North American Bat Conservation Alliance

​

The North American Bat Conservation Alliance (NABCA) is an informal alliance among federal, state/provincial and local government agencies; regional bat working groups; non-government organizations; industry; individual scientists and biologists and concerned members of the public interested in bat conservation. The role of NABCA is to facilitate coordination and communication among parties interested in bat conservation in North America, to develop and maintain a North American Bat Conservation Strategy, and to develop and promote Action Plans to implement the priorities identified in the Strategy.

The Northeast Bat Working Group (NEBWG) is comprised of agencies, organizations, industry, and individuals interested in bat research, management, and conservation located in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Virginia area regions.

A winter meeting is held each year at various locations where participants present results from previous studies, provide updates on long term projects, and plan future multi-state collaborative endeavors. State representatives provide summaries of their state's bat related activities, while federal representatives provide updates on national scale policy and protection efforts.

The current mission of NEBWG is to facilitate networking with bat biologists and overhead is covered by volunteers. Annual meetings are supported by meeting registration fees and sponsors depending on the venue. There are no annual dues.

What We Do

The Northeast Bat Working Group Meeting is held each year and hosted on rotating schedule of locations throughout the Northeast. Participants present results from previous studies, provide updates on long term projects, and plan future multi-state collaborative endeavors. State representatives provide summaries of their state's bat related activities, while federal representatives provide updates on national scale policy and protection efforts.

 

The 2025 Northeast Bat Working Group Meeting will be held January 15-17 , 2025 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
